Korean celebrity Bae Yong Joon is working towards opening a coffee shop in Waikiki called Gorilla in the Café Hawaii, a spokesperson confirmed. The news was first reported by “K-Drama” columnist Jeff Chung in the Jan. 15 edition of the Honolulu Star-Advertiser.

“We just got the lease … (and) the project is going forward,” said Timothy Lee, a Hawaii-based real estate agent who represents Bae’s Gorilla Life Way USA, LLC.
After successful acting roles in Korean and Japanese television (where he is known as Yonsama), Bae expanded his business interests into restaurant ventures in those two countries. A visit to Hawaii island last year got him interested in opening something here.
“He really enjoys Hawaii and is an avid golfer,” Lee said. “When he was here in April, we were in Kona, and that’s where he really got to experience the coffee farms.”
Back on Oahu, Lee connected Bae with the Korean owners of Teddy Bear World in Waikiki, who incidentally had a vacant space available to sub-lease. Once the necessary paperwork was finalized earlier this month, Gorilla in the Café Hawaii became a reality. While Lee will handle some aspects of the new business, he said Bae himself will oversee much of the process.
“He’s going to be directly involved,” said Lee. “He’s a big foodie (and) has a very good palate.
“My thing in Hawaii is that we really lack the outdoor dining options here. We have great weather all year long, but for some reason there’s not much outdoor seating.”
Lee said that while the new, 500 square-foot space isn’t that big, it’s a dedicated seating area outside that will help attract customers. Bae’s fans will also be drawn to design elements and merchandise that reflect the actor’s personality.
“This project is personal,” said Lee. “It will be a lot of (Bae’s) personal preferences on the merchandise and everything that we do.”
Gorilla in the Café Hawaii will be located at 2155 Kalakaua Ave. and is tentatively set to open in April.Bae is expected to attend the grand opening.

皆さんおはようございます。

すごい良い天気ですね～～

今日は正官庄のCM撮影のBehind Storyについて書きたいと思います。

撮影は去年12月18日日曜日、韓国サムスン洞にあるStudioで行われました。

日本人のスタッフと韓国人のスタッフが一緒に準備をしてる中、ヨン様は午後の1時ぐらいにStudioに来ました。

皆さんもご存知のように、赤バージョンと白バージョンで撮影をし、衣装もスーツとカジュアル２バージョンで行われました。

ヨン様もいつも正官庄を愛用するそうです。

いい雰囲気の中で撮影は無事に終わり、最後に個人的にジェントルなヨン様から自分の名前入りのサインもいただきました

皆さんにサインも見せたいですけど、悪用される恐れがあるので、やめときますね。こめんなさい。

Korea Ginseng Corporation Japan has announced today, that Korea star Bae Yong Joon is appointed as image character to promote it’s high quality Korean ginseng, “Seikansho(正官庄)” which uses only 6 year red ginsengs.
Bae Yong Joon did not show up at the press conference today, but his message and TV commercial were introduced.

Bae Yong Joon has send message by video,
“I will be meeting everyone in Japan with this long traditional Seikansho.
I hope Seikansho will be loved by many people and expand more.
I will do my best as image character.
Weather is getting colder, I pray everyone become healthier.”

TV commercials are scheduled to air from Monday, 16 January.

On Dec. 18, actor Bae Yong-joon’s agency Key East Entertainment confirmed the details that the star has indeed recently moved into a house in Seongbuk-dong in Seongbuk District in northern Seoul.

According to local media, Bae bought the house in November last year for five billion won ($4.3 million). The new home of the movie star is a white-colored two-story building that looks clean and luxurious from the outside.

The star made changes to the interior of the house and moved in following the renovation. The actor’s agency stated that he threw a house-warming party before moving in.

Up until the star moved into his new home, Bae lived in a rental house in Samseong-dong, Gangnam, for the last four years. Due to his sudden purchase of the large house, there were rumors circulating that the celebrity would soon wed.

However Key East Entertainment denied these rumors saying, “As rental prices kept rising, Bae thought it was a smart move to buy his own home. The star was missing the smell of dirt and wanted a house with a garden.”

As you are dazzled by the illumination, you seem to recall every events of this year.
Last winter, we were spending busy time creating drama “Dream High,” and this year we will be busy again with production of drama “Dream High 2.”

KBS 2TV‘s ‘Dream High 2‘ has finally released its confirmed list of main cast members!

Actress Kang Sora, SISTAR‘s Hyorin, T-ara‘s Jiyeon, and 2AM‘s Jung Jinwoon have all confirmed that they’ll be taking part in the sequel series to the popular teenage drama.

On December 6th, the producers of ‘Dream High 2′ and CJ Media announced that Kang Sora would be taking on the role of ‘Shin Hye Sung‘, an awkward and somewhat weird idol aspirant who learned music solely through effort.

Kang Sora, who plans on showcasing her strong acting abilities through this new role, commented, “I’ve only acted until now, so having to perform on stage as well is honestly a burden. However, I’m both nervous and excited because this will be a new challenge for me.”

Hyorin will play the role of ‘Nana‘, a student with amazing talent and natural abilities. Hyorin mused, ”Nana has a broad-minded personality that is similar to mine, so I have an attraction towards her character. I’m looking forward to it.”

Jiyeon will play the role of ‘Lian‘, a member of the popular girl group, Hush, who aspires to one day be the “Queen of the Cannes Film Festival”, but lacks the acting ability to do so. Jiyeon revealed, “I’m receiving a lot of pointers from Eunjung, who participated in the first season. I already have a warm blanket prepared to withstand the cold at Kirin High School.”

Lastly, Jung Jinwoon has plans to showcase his cute charms through his role of ‘Jin Yoo Jin‘, a bragging troublemaker who aspires to be a rockstar. He stated, “I felt an attraction to the role of Jin Yoo Jin as soon as I read the script. I like the character more because of the fact that he likes rock, just like me. I will try my best to bring out the character’s charm.”

직접 랜드로버인가? 짚차 운전하고 발렛 시키고 들어가는데

Hallyu star Bae Yong-joon has turned down a role in an upcoming series, according to his agency KEYEAST on Thursday.

An official with KEYEAST told 10Asia over the phone, "He was offered a role in the drama 'Four Seasons' (translated title) but has decided to turn it down."

The official then added that Bae is looking into other projects and will make his comeback soon.

"Four Seasons," written by famed scenarist Lee Kyung-hee of "I'm Sorry, I Love You," will tell the story about a female reporter and an orphaned man from a French mercenary.

The show was reported to air on KBS next year although an official with the major broadcaster explained that "nothing has been finalized on its scheduling."

Bae rose to stardom in Korea and throughout Asia through his 2002 hit KBS TV series "Winter Sonata" co-starring actress Choi Ji-woo. He last starred in historical epic "Four Gods" in 2007 and made an appearance in KBS' music series "Dream High" last year.

Producers of KBS‘s ‘Dream High 2‘ have revealed that filming for the new season will begin with fresh faces starting this December.

The first season, which debuted earlier this year, was a hit amongst fans with hot stars like Taecyeon, Wooyoung, Suzy, and Kim Soo Hyun. A lot of attention has been focused on the new cast, by co-producers Key East and JYP Entertainment have been keeping it under wraps, hinting that they’ll be fresh faces picked straight from their group of trainees.

On October 26th, a representative revealed, “There are a lot of talents amongst the trainees. We recently gave them several missions to carry out and have begun the audition process. We’re sure that the cast will be finalized by next month.”

In regards to the original cast making an appearance, they added, “The season is scheduled to begin airing in January so the schedule is up in the air. If anything, they’ll be making cameo appearances.”

Bae Yong Joon and J.Y. Park, however, will be making an appearance for sure. “This drama won’t be focused on them, though. The plot will revolve around the new stars so we haven’t finalized their screen time or anything. Even so, they’ll be characters that will definitely make an impact on the plot.”

While fashion editors pick the best high fashion outfits for fall, Korea Tourism Organization has been busy determining which Korean celeb goes best with each season.

Confused? So are we, but there does seem to be a huge tie-in with celebs and tourism in Korea, and (KTO) seems to love any creative way to talk about it.

According to (KTO), 7,936 people from a whopping 81 countries participated in the survey which asked recipients to pick the Korean Wave star that best represents each season. The survey was conducted on Facebook and Twitter as part of the organization's Visit Korea campaign, which operates websites in nine languages.

The choice for winter was a shoo-in, with Bae Yong-Joon, the beloved heartthrob of the "Winter Sonata" (the drama that launched the Korean Wave) again reaffirming the view that he looks best in a turtleneck and a fur-trimmed down jacket.

Survey recipients said that while visiting Seoul 59.3 percent planned to go to a K-Pop concert, 58.32 percent said that would buy something connected to their darling star, and 57.9 percent said they would visit a filming locale of a Korean drama.

"With this survey, we are trying to discern the needs and inclinations of Korean Wave fans by region, which is why this survey was so important," said Je Sang-won, the manager of overseas smart tourism marketing at (KTO).

"From the information gathered from this survey we will develop more Korean Wave related contents and marketing."

And by that, we hope he means they'll open a gift shop selling Hyun Bin sequined tracksuits this fall.

Korean TV series "Dream High" has won a special award at a Japanese drama festival, according to the Seoul Drama Awards Organizing Committee (SDAOC) on Tuesday.

The SDAOC said through a press release that the show by major broadcaster KBS won the Special Award for Foreign Drama at the 5th International Drama Festival in TOKYO held yesterday.

Actor Kim Soo-hyun who played main character Song Sam-dong in "Dream High" attended the fest to receive the prize on behalf of the cast and staff of the show.

This is not the first time "Dream High" has been recognized in the country -- it won the grand prize and Hallyu award at the SkyPerfect TV Award 2011 early this month.

A joint production between top entertainment firms KEYEAST and JYP Entertainment, "Dream High" told the story of six students who attend Kirin Art School who dream of becoming a star.

It also starred 2PM members Taecyeon and Wooyoung, miss A's Suzy, T-ara's Eun-jung and songstress IU.

The series brought in viewership ratings in the 18 to 20 percent range during its two-month run in Korea since early January and aired on Japan's DATV and TBS this year.

Producers are in the process of planning on creating a new season of the show which will go on air sometime next year.

Musical ‘Winter Sonata’ brings back Yoon Suk-ho’s famous first-love saga

“Is this Joon-sang?”

“Is this Yoo-jin?”

The famous lines are back, and so is the famous first-love saga. But this time it is on the stage, not the small screen.

Few would argue that KBS’2002 mega hit drama “Winter Sonata” was not one of the first examples of hallyu. Thanks to its enormous popularity, the main actor Bae Yong-joon rose to heartthrob status in East Asia, while its filming location in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, has welcomed more than one million visitors in the last decade.

Now, celebrating its upcoming 10th year anniversary, series director Yoon Suk-ho has written a stage adaption which is currently being performed in central Seoul.

Previously, a different musical adaptation of the TV series was staged in several cities in Japan in 2006, including Tokyo, Osaka and Sapporo. According to Yoon, the Japanese version was a lot bigger in scale and much more tragic than the current production in Seoul.

And as Yoon noted, the show feels very much like the TV series. Its only stage background is the beautiful winter scenery of Nami Island in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, which was the filming location of the drama.

Actor Kim Seung-hoe, who plays the main character Joonsang, almost uncannily resembles Bae Yong-joon. Every piece of clothing he wears, from the long winter coats to the matching scarves rolled around his neck, remind the audience of the legendary character of the TV show.

The show is 80-minutes long, considered short for a musical. Many of the subplots and minor conflicts have been cut from the original, and the holes are filled with newly composed musical numbers.

Lee Ji-soo, who produced the soundtrack of this year’s highly successful animated film, “Leafie, A Hen Into the Wild,” was in charge of writing new vocal pieces for the show.

But most of the audience will fall for the variations of the original soundtrack of the TV series, which certainly compliment the show more than the newly composed scores.

Notably, “The Beginning,” an instrumental piece which was used as background music for the TV show, is beautifully rearranged with lyrics for the musical adaptation. Kim Seung-hoe brings a prolific performance for the piece.

“Winter Sonata” isn’t exactly about magic and pain of first love. It is a universal approach to a singular and unrepeatable event, which cannot possibly be replaced by something else. As reflected in the repeated lines, the characters search for Joonsang and Yoo-jin, the very first and irreplaceable events of their lives.

The show runs until March 18 of next year at Myungbo Art Hall in central Seoul. Tickets cost 50,000 won. Japanese subtitles available. For more information, call (02) 1544-1555, or (070) 7019-6707.

Actress Lim Soo-jung has signed with KEYEAST which manages the careers of Hallyu star Bae Yong-joon and singer-actor Kim Hyun-joong.
