Hi, everyone;

I found the photo below on the Korean internet.

The name of condominium where he was seen is new to me and
I researched it and found out that it’s located in Haeundae, in the city of Busan.

I wasn’t sure it was him on the picture, but luckily, Bunseongbae nim of byjintoronto lives nearby and went there to confirm that he has been there.

Here is her story which was posted on byjintoronto café after she return from the condominium. Please disregard the date on the picture because Bunseongbae nim didn’t change the date.

It’s behind the condo.

I heard that he had coffee.

I took a photo from the angle similar to the photo on the internet.

I thought he might have walked on this street.
I looked at the photo when I came back home. A bit to the side..

Before I took photos, I thought that the person in that photo wasn’t him.
I took photos while I was thinking that he didn’t come here.

It opened not too long ago and was located in the secluded area.
There was hardly anyone, so YJ might think he could have coffee alone.

Coming out after taking photos,
I saw two young security guards in black suites with earphones standing by.
They looked handsome and were in their early twenties..
I had eye contact with them once when I was taking photos continuously.

I hesitated about 10 minutes before I approached them.
I wonder where Ajumna’s courage comes from.

Hi, I heard that BYJ came here a few days ago..
They smiled at me.
How did you know? Yes. We didn’t see him.
But we heard it from other employees.
He came here.. Darn it! Both of us didn’t see him.

I told them that I got the info from the internet and
hastily came back. Ah.. embarrassed...
I didn’t asked them when he came and whether he was still here.
If I talked them more, it seemed like they might answer me..

My heart is still beating.
He was so close to me.
I didn’t see him.. sob sob I’m so sad.

* The Most Wonderful Scenery of Sea and Cloud - Haeundae

The name of "Haeundae" derived from "Haeun", the name of the great Scholar Choi Chi-won under the pen name of Ko Un during the late period of the Silla Kingdom. Allegedly, Scholar Choi Chi-won carved a 3-letter "Haeundae" on the southern rockwall of Dongbaek Island, being fascinated with the exquisite wonders of the Haeundae Dalmaji area, on his way to Mt. Gaya deserting his government post.

The name of Haeundae changed to Jangsan-guk during the Three Hans Period, and changed to Dongnae-gun during the Unified Silla Kingdom Period and afterwards belonged to Dongnae-hyeon and Dongnae Doho-bu during the periods of the Goryeo Dynasty and the Joseon Dynasty and belonged to Dongha-myeon, Dongnae-bu after the period of the late Joseon Dynasty. Haeundae Branch Office was set up in 1953 and it became Branch Office under the Direct Control of Busan City in 1976. It was promoted to Haeundae-gu in 1980 and designated as the Special Tourism Zone on August 31, 1994, reborn as the hub city of the international business and tourism.

Haeundae, located on the eastern part of Busan City, the southernmost end of the Korean Peninsula, is formed in the center of Mt. Jang, 634m above the sea level. Haeundae has a coastline of 10.9km between east and west, 11km between south and north. Haeundae is bordered on the west of the Suyeong River by Suyeong-gu, on the northwest by Dongnaegu, Geumjeong-gu, and on the northeast by Gijang-gun and located on the diverging point of the South Sea and the East Sea.

N: More than 500 fans from Japan flew to Korea to get a glimpse of him at the award ceremony. It was 4 years ago that BYJ started an unprecedented boom.

On his first visit to Japan, many as 5000 fans flocked to the airport to see him. That was the greatest number of people ever to gather at the airport to greet one man. Fans called him “Yon-sama” and this boom became a kind of social phenomena.

In the midst of this, a sensational announcement was made. In his first photo collection, he was to reveal himself in a totally different image from what he was known for. It was on this day November 12 2004 that advanced orders for this book were accepted in Korea and Japan simultaneously.

What is it that he captures the hearts of Japanese women so?

BYJ debuted as an actor at the age of 22. He started out in this world after participating in an audition with a friend.

From his very first drama, he was cast in the leading role. Even here, he can be seen wearing eye glasses which have now become his trademark.

His 1996 drama “First Love” marked the highest viewing rate in Korean drama history of 65.8 percent. BYJ had become a great star in Korea only after 2 years from his debut.

BYJ appeared on Japanese TV in April of 2003, in a drama depicting pure love, “WLS”.

In this drama BYJ portrayed a role of an elegant and a gentle man.

The drama was received with unexpected enthusiasm, and many Japanese women came to love him.

Ad copy writer Junko Matsumura is one of these women who fell for the drama and even wrote a book analyzing BYJ. She comments:

“It was a sensation I had not experienced in a long time. First, my mother had borrowed the DVD, and that was really something. She lost 7 kg, and her complexion was glowing. It may sound strange, but I think she regained her hormone balance – by knowing BYJ she was restored as a woman (flowerbossa: she used a funny phrase “like the tap was opened again.)

The women who fell in love with him started calling him “smiling prince Yon-sama”, and purchased BYJ related merchandise which came out one after another.

Reporter: So this is a Yon-sama cup.

Fan: Yes.

R: Is it alright for you to drink from it?

F: Oh, isn’t it awful of me~?

From their urge to be near to him as possible, many even went over to Korea, and Fuyusona (WLS) tours became the rage.

F: Oh this is so wonderful, it’s like a dream.

And finally on 2004.4.3, Yon-sama planned his first visit to Japan. Women outnumbering fans who would go to greet a Hollywood star flocked to the airport to see him, and waited breathless for his appearance at the gate.

Mr. Takemura, a reporter who covered this event for Nikkan Sports recalls, “There was nothing like it. Some people waited all night in order to see him. It may be alright for a young girl, but an all-nighter for a 60 year old woman can be pretty tough.

BYJ was actually not feeling well that day, but hearing that fans were waiting for him from the day before, with the help of IV, he landed in Japan in spite of his condition.

And THE moment….

For the fan gathering scheduled on the following day, 60,000 people applied for the 2000 tickets which were sold. Despite the pouring rain, fans that were not able to obtain tickets flocked to the site anyway, and even waited at the back entrance.

In his first words towards his fans, he told them (in Japanese), “I really wanted to see you. In this moment, I am filled with happiness.”

This was not the only expression of his sincere feelings towards his fans… Later in the meeting, he called out to the lighting staff,

“Could you turn on the lights in the audience so I can see everyone’s face?”

The fans were moved all the more for his feelings towards them.

In an interview (2004.11) he claimed:

“I enjoy being with my family. Meeting them one by one, shaking hands while looking into their eyes, exchanging greetings… I want to talk about personal things too, but I am really sorry that I don’t have the time for it.”

For Yon-sama, his fans are his family.

Takemura-san: BYJ who calls his fans family, realizes that he owes it to his fans who support him to be in his present position.a It is perhaps an attitude that Japanese celebrities have forgotten, and accepted as something fresh by the Japanese people.

His popularity which knew no limits, even led him to appear in commercials where he flashed his signature smile.

But in October, a sensational announcement was made.

In his first collection of photos, he was to reveal his muscular figure.

“Unlike ordinary photo books with photos of me in my usual style, I wanted to take on a challenge in a new genre as an actor creating a new kind of work, creating a new image of myself."

Commemorating his 10th anniversary since his debut, he wanted to show himself in a new image to his fans, freeing himself from the image in WLS.

To achieve this goal, he went through an excruciating training program to change his physique.

The general producer of the project Lee Dong Hoon explains, " because we had only 3 months to complete the collection, he worked to build his body through various ways including a strict diet -he restricted his intake of salt, ate fillet and tomato in the evenings. He claimed that without making such efforts, it was meaningless to present a photo book to his fans."

BYJ: Because I didn't take any salt and sugar, I had sleep disorders and experienced nights when I could not sleep at all.

N: Through such efforts, the collection was completed.
The product of a strict diet and a 4 hour daily training program, was a fabulous physique with only 3 percent body fat.

And exactly 4 years ago on Nov.12, 2004 from 12 a.m., advance orders on the internet was accepted both in Japan and Korea. Fans tried to access the site immediately after the designated time, and due to an overload of access 40 times more than the usual amount, the server went down temporarily.

The book which cost 14,700 yen per copy was so popular that only after 5 days, the first edition of 50,000 copies were sold out, marking a sales of 735 million yen.

What is it about BYJ that captures that hearts of women so?

Takemura-san: It's about the diversity of his style. This star BYJ possesses many dimensions and his fans accepted this.

N: In a Korean restaurant called "Madan" in Shinjuku (Shin Okubo), there is a room where the walls are decorated with photos of BYJ. Women who are enchanted by him visit this room daily.

76 year old fan: Just when my life attained some peace, BYJ appeared. He gives my life purpose, and I am enjoying it. I would like to live at least 10 more years.

74 year old fan: Obviously he looks wonderful, but now a days I support him for his attitude towards life. (applause)

N: BYJ - this man brought excitement to the hearts of Japanese women. He shall continue to make them shine, by always showing himself in new ways.

MOBILERO CO., LTD., a venture enterprise located in Busan created a korean character educational game to be sold in Japan using the image of Hallyu star BYJ. The company concluded a contract with BYJ's company Key East on Nov. 12. Online pre-orders is planned January of next year. The price is 5,000 yen

The face of Hallyu Star, Bae Yong Joon is out of stock. The posters of TheFaceShop, the brand that BYJ is modeling for, were out of stock right after they were disclosed on the 1st of the month and have set a record.

BYJ’s face is printed on the front and his upper body is printed on the back of the poster and it was taken during the CF filming. BYJ filmed for the papers and TV CF for the 5th anniversary of TheFaceShop at Daegwan Valley in Gangwondo in the middle of last month.

The staff of TheFaceShop said, “All of BYJ’s posters were out of stock in all the stores of the country in one week since they were disclosed. In Seoul, even foreign fans acquired posters and which made them out of stock in hours.”

TheFaceShop had a huge success in the efficiency of public relations with Hallyu star, Bae Yong Joon. The posters were distributed to the customers who are only buying their products. The recognition of their product and their income were increased from the customers who are buying the products to acquire the posters. They killed two birds with one stone.

Before Bae Yong Joon, they used Kwon Sang Woo, Ko So Young, and Okuda Erica as their models and produced the posters. But, it’s the first time the posters were out of stock.

TheFaceShop printed 10,000 posters in the beginning. But, they were out of stock rapidly, and they hastily made posters the 2nd time around and are distributing them now.

They increased the numbers this time and printed 30,000 posters. But, it’s known that they are almost out of stock due to the demand of domestic and overseas fans. Actually, the fans are posting their requests to acquire the posters continuously on his home page.

BYJ had his French cuisine at "Pierre Gagnaire a Seoul"

If heaven had a kitchen, Pierre Gagnaire would be the head chef. Now, atop a forest of buildings in downtown Seoul, one of France`s most celebrated chefs has opened a restaurant in his name.

Nestled on the 35th floor of the Lotte Hotel Seoul, the "Pierre Gagnaire a Seoul" was unveiled yesterday to customers seeking a culinary hideaway from the bustling streets of Korea`s capital.

The entire floor is designed as a maze of themed private rooms and bars, taking on the motif of the secret garden of the Palace of Versailles.

Gagnaire, who has won three Michelin stars for his innovative mix of textures and tastes, attempts to satisfy all five senses with his restaurant.

A panoramic view of the city surrounded by mountains entertains the eyes, and the smell of daring yet exquisite dishes tickles the nose and makes the mouth water.

Sounds of Christofle and Ercuis cutlery hitting the snow-white plates are music to the ears, while your hands will continue to grasp at the thin stem of Zwiesel wine glasses as they are filled with wine chosen from more than 270 selections.

It is like a theme park of fine dining.

An ambitious project by Lotte Hotels and Resort, Gagnaire`s restaurant aims to reinstate the definition of fine dining amongst Seoulites and visitors to the capital city.

"We have invested a lot to bring a dining culture that befits the high economic capacity of Korea," said Lotte Hotels and Resorts President and CEO Jwa Sangbong.

"We hope that this restaurant will act as the beginning of a growth of restaurants all over the country, none of which are yet to acquire the highly coveted three stars from the Michelin Guide," Jwa said.

The Michelin Guide is a series of annual guide books published since 1900. The guide offers references to the best hotels and restaurants, and is famous for its star awards. Only 68 restaurants from 11 countries have received the three star award as of September 2008.

Lotte`s project of introducing "real French cuisine" to Korea began in 2006, after spending nearly four months to persuade Gagnaire to launch his brand in Seoul.

After successfully convincing him, they spent another eight months renovating the entire top floor of the hotel located in Sogong-dong, Jung-gu, in the heart of Seoul. The overall preparation including menu consulting, staff education and training overseas took a total of two years and two months. Approximately 7 billion won ($5.8 million) was spent for the project.

The Gagnaire space covers more than 820 square meters, decorated by world-renowned designer Olivier Gagnere.

The main hall overlooks Jongno and Cheong Wa Dae with a total of 38 seats available. Upon Gagnaire`s request, four different conceptual private rooms were built. They are named "Guy de Maupassant," "Stendhal," "Victor Hugo," and "Albert Camus," after the great French authors.

There are three bars along one side of the floor, each with a different theme. One is the "Champagne Bar," holding more than 20 types of rare champagne where one can also enjoy the view of Namsan. "Boudoir" is designed provocatively with each partition holding just two people, exclusively for couples. "Vodka Bar" serves more than 30 types of premium vodka, as well as whiskey and cognac to the Euro lounge music played by special DJ.

The most important aspect of the Gagnaire restaurant of course is the world`s top-class cuisine.

Gagnaire`s food is often dubbed the "food of the gods" and is an icon in the fusion movement, with a startling mix of texture, taste and flavor.

Almost all ingredients are airlifted from France, but adjustments will continue to be made on the menu to better suit the palates of Koreans, according to restaurant managers.

His menu consists of four or five a la carte or an extravagant 15-course meal and explosive desserts.

Once you are seated, feuillete (puff pastries) of five different sorts will be served with a glass of champagne to start the prodigal journey of Pierre Gagnaire. A full course would take more than three hours from start to end. The main course is usually served in four-six dishes. For example, an order of grilled beef tenderloin would be accompanied by "abalone with pepper" "shallot compote and Chinese quince with raisins and old balsamic vinegar," "beef tartar and consomme jelly with sesame seeds," and "beef brisket with cherry and tomato jam."

Breaking all convention, you might receive soup or dessert in the middle of a course. Dessert alone entails five to six different mini plates.

Gagnaire runs restaurants in France, England, Japan, Dubai and Hong Kong.

For a Pierre Gagnaire experience, it is indeed costly.

Prices of a la carte menu dishes range from 100,000 won to 150,000 won. Lunch courses are priced at 120,000 won and 200,000 won, and dinner courses at 220,000 won and 300,000 won, V.A.T and service charge not included.

The restaurant and bars are open from 12 a.m. to 3 p.m. for lunch and 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. for dinner during weekdays. Only dinner is served on weekends. Reservation is a must. For more information, call (02) 317-7181~
